The Parks Maintenance team plays a vital role in preserving the beauty, safety, and functionality of the City’s parks, open spaces, and public grounds. This position supports the community by ensuring that park facilities, landscapes, and equipment are well‑maintained, welcoming, and ready for public use. Individuals in this role contribute directly to the quality of life for residents and visitors, performing hands‑on maintenance, supporting seasonal operations, and helping create clean, safe, and enjoyable outdoor environments for all.

Rate or pay:
$18.00- $20.00 Hr. Depending on Experience
Requirements:
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of tools, equipment, practices, and appropriate materials used in park maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of and ability to observe and follow established safety principles and procedures and work safely, including all state, health, OSHA, and DEQ regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to observe and follow city, state, and safety flagging regulations for protection of self, co-workers, and the general public.
- Knowledge and general understanding of the physical layout of the City of Coquille.
- Skill in operation of a variety of tools and equipment, including lawnmower, weed eater, and other common power tools.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate clearly and regularly with the Public Works crew, and other City employees and the general public; to follow written and oral directions; and to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise judgment and good organizational and planning skills to meet deadlines within established guidelines.
- Ability to work on-call and to respond to emergency situations.
Job duties:
Schedule:- Participates in grounds/parks management work including mowing, weeding, trimming, planting, pruning, removing, and fertilizing grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers; watering and maintaining irrigation systems; clears leaves, trash, and debris from rights-of-way, sidewalks, streets, and sport fields; empties trash and cleans parks, restrooms, docks, boat launch, trails, cemetery, park facilities, and grounds; inspects park facilities, playgrounds, equipment, and public grounds; controls pests and vermin.
- Participates in street maintenance work, including weed eating/brush trimming along streets and sidewalks; painting/striping, and installing signs.
- Participates in facility maintenance work, including weed eating/brush trimming along buildings and sidewalks.
- Loads and unloads debris, rock, gravel, sweepings, and other materials.
- Operates a variety of light and medium equipment and power tools, including utility trucks, weed eaters, riding mowers, push mowers, and leaf blowers; operates and maintains hand tools and other equipment; performs preventative maintenance and minor repair on utility vehicles and related equipment.
- Follows all safety rules and procedures for work areas, including state, health, OSHA, and DEQ regulations; and city, state, and safety flagging regulations for protection of self, co-workers, and the general public.
- Complies with established work standards and maintains all required logs and work records.
- Assists other public works crew members as needed and performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
